Doesn't it give you all a sad feeling to know that people who had been members of churches where Matt pastored, believe he is capable of murder. My gosh, one of his friends in Kerrville commented on "48 Hours" that a spirit-filled person couldn't do what he was accused of doing. There are too many ministers in the church who aren't spirit-filled. What a tragedy. I just read this morning about the arrest of one of the minister's at the the mega church, Prestonwood Baptist. He was driving to have sex with a 13 year-old but was instead arrested in a sting operation. Do you think his congregation believed he was spirit-filled?

I'm new to this but... Do Baptist believe that you can go to heaven after you commit suicide? I'm not baptist and I don't know any, but all my religious friends seem to think suicide is a one way ticket to hell. If this woman wanted to see her little girl so badly and believed her to be in heaven, why would she risk hell by killing herself? Has anyone addressed this issue?

I have had that same thought anon. I do know lots of Baptist, but I'm not sure of the general "Baptist" view on heaven and suicide. I do remember the once saved always saved argument though from one Baptist friend many years ago. I hope matt's not banking on that.

SG,

I am a Baptist. The key here in the Baptist faith is ONCE saved....Sometimes people can fool humankind but they can't fool God. Below are a couple of passages from the Bible that deal directly with this subject (and there are many more).

A Tree is Known by Its Fruit
(Luke 6:43-44)
15“Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are savage wolves. 16You will know them by their fruit. Grapes aren't gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles, are they? 17In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a rotten tree produces bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a rotten tree cannot produce good fruit. 19Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into a fire. 20So by their fruit you will know them.”

I Never Knew You
(Luke 6:46; 13:25-27)
21“Not everyone who keeps saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will get into the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who keeps doing the will of my Father in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name, drove out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name, didn't we?’ 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you evildoers!’”

I am not a Matt Baker fan, but I am a fan of the Son of God!! The sin that is a oneway ticket to hell is denying Christ.

And folks, as angry as we are at this man....there is room for forgiveness. Christ died for our sins, ALL of our sins. Yours, mine, Matt's....lies, evil thoughts and murder. His blood covers them all.

Yes, there is absolutely room for forgiveness. And I do hope that Matt finds that. I do. But one has to confess and repent in order to receive it.
